Zachary Michael "Zach" Gilford is an American actor best known for his role as Matt Saracen in the hit dramatic sports series Friday Night Lights.

Biography[]

Gilford was born on January 14, 1982, in Evanston, Illinois, to Steve and Anne Gilford. Why Gilford wanted to be an actor is not known. What is known is that Gilford graduated from both Evanston Township High School and Northwestern University, the latter of which with a major in theatre. Gilford got his first on-screen role in 2003, when he was cast as Jimmy in the romantic comedy short film Handbook to Casual Stalking. Gilford got his first major role in 2006, when he was cast as Matt Saracen, the back-up quarterback turned starting quarterback of the Dillon Panthers, in the hit dramatic sports series Friday Night Lights. Gilford has also appeared in TV shows and movies such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Good Girls, Lifeline, Dare, Devil's Due, The Mob Doctor, The Purge: Anarchy, Answers to Nothing, The River Why, The Last Winter, Grey's Anatomy, L.A.'s Finest, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, Drunk History, and Criminal Minds: Evolution.

Gilford is married to actress Kiele Sanchez, who plays Sydney Voit, the wife of his character Elias Voit in Criminal Minds: Evolution, starting with the episode "Sicarius".
