Sesler

Trey Eric Sesler, a.k.a. "LensCapProductions" or "Mr. Anime", is an American convicted murderer, narcissistic and psychopathic parricidal killer, family annihilator, possible serial arsonist, animal killer, and rampage killer who shot and killed his mother, Rhonda Wyse Sesler, his older brother, Mark Alan Sesler, and his father, Lawton Ray Sesler Jr., with a variety of firearms to murder his family members, as documented by investigators. He is known for perpetrating the 2012 Waller killings.

Background[]

Trey Eric Sesler was born on August 3, 1989, in Waller, Texas, to Lawton Ray Sesler Jr., a teacher at Robison Elementary School, and Rhonda Wyse Sesler, a worker at The Waller Times. His parents were married for 34 years. His mother worked for a local newspaper, and his father was a respected teacher. Neighbours described the family as private homebodies who enjoyed decorating their home and yard for holidays.

While some described him as a shy loner, Sesler also had a tight circle of friends in high school who shared his interests, according to a friend. He graduated from Waller High School in 2007 and attended Blinn College for two years, though he didn't graduate. A former teacher described Sesler as intelligent but defiant, argumentative, and involved in drugs and girls at a young age.

Sesler launched his YouTube channel, called Mr. Anime, on September 14, 2006. He also had a channel called LensCapProductions. His initial content consisted mainly of anime series reviews and skits with his brother, Mark. He was known for his honest reviews within the anime community. Fans began noticing a shift in Sesler's content in 2011, noting he didn't seem like himself. While he continued reviewing anime and even showed weapons during these reviews, his content progressively became darker. He started talking about killing animals, showing off real guns, and filming himself shooting at makeshift ranges and buildings. His videos became less about anime and more about disturbing content, reflecting his growing obsession with mass murderers and mass shootings.

Murders, Capture, and Conviction[]

On March 20, 2012, Sesler shot and killed his parents and older brother in Waller, Texas. He had planned to perpetrate a school shooting at Waller High School after murdering his family. Police were called to the family home at 1 P.M. the same day and found the bodies of his mother, Rhonda Sesler, his father, Lawton Sesler and his brother Mark Sesler. Investigators say that Sesler was heavily inspired by the Columbine High School massacre.

At some point before 1:00 p.m., the following day, Sesler lured his mother, Rhonda Sesler, to the garage and shot her at point-blank range with a shotgun four times. His father is believed to have been asleep at this time. He then walked back inside the home and shot his brother. At this point, his father was awoken by the gunshots and was shot. After the shootings, Sesler wrote things such as: "I love my mom, dad and brother" and "God forgive me because I cannot forgive myself." all over the family home. He then proceeded to wreck the family home. Waller police chief Phil Rehak described the crime scene as a "war zone".

Sesler loaded his 2010 black Ford Mustang with a Hi-Point model 995 carbine rifle and over 100 rounds of ammunition. He drove to Waller High School, from which Sesler had graduated, and sat in the parking lot before driving to a friend's home. Police received a call from family members asking for a welfare check, as they hadn't heard from anyone in the house. Police went to the home at 1 p.m., and the bodies of Sesler's family were discovered, and an arrest warrant was issued for him. Sesler was arrested at a friend's house in Magnolia, Texas, at 9:30 p.m. the same day.

After the shooting, Sesler told investigators that he killed his family as he didn't want them to be ashamed of him perpetrating the school shooting, but backed out as it all became "too real". He was placed on suicide watch within days of his arrest.

In the early morning of March 20, 2012, Trey lured his mother, Rhonda, out into the garage, where he shot her in the chest at point-blank range. From here, he entered the home and shot his brother Mark in the head. His father, Lawton, woke up from the shots and entered the living room to investigate, only to be shot by Trey in the torso. From here, Trey destroyed the whole house and killed the remaining pets in the house before carrying weapons and 100 rounds of ammunition to Waller High School down the street, with plans to commit a mass murder.

Trey's original plan was to kill at least 70 people at Waller High School's pep rally to become the biggest mass murderer in history, as revealed in an interrogation. He killed his family first to stop them from knowing what he planned on doing next. However, Trey stood down and returned home, where he was arrested. He revealed later that the event was becoming "all too real" and, as a result, gave up.

Police confirmed Trey had been practicing for the event for several years by storing weapons in his college dorm and room and using buildings and household pets as target practice. He also had a large fascination with shootings (primarily the Columbine High School shooting) and would even rank murderers. Sesler had confessed to murdering three of his family members. Police officers found the bodies of three people who appeared to have been killed by shots from a high-powered rifle, authorities said. Sesler was arrested in Magnolia, Montgomery County, around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Sesler was charged with 3 counts of capital murder.

Shortly after he was arrested and a public report of his arrest was made, many reviewers made videos on the situation, including TheHardMode, BionicSlime, TheAnimeOverviewer, TheAnimeRoom, Gigguk, AFF 101, and many others. In addition, many of his fans and/or close friends lived in denial for a while; some excuses people brought up included him covering for someone else, or that he was framed for the crime, but he eventually admitted to it all together. Sesler was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The judge believes he'd pose a danger to himself and others if he were given parole. On the walls in his home, he wrote several things in marker, including "Why did I do this? I love my mom, dad and brother." "I miss my brother, father, and mother," and "God, please forgive me, because I can't forgive myself". As of 2025, Trey is currently living in the Terrell Unit in Brazoria County, Texas.

Modus Operandi[]

Sesler's modus operandi evolved over several years, starting with escalating, low-level violence and culminating in the planned and methodical murder of his family. His motive was a desire for infamy by becoming a mass murderer, influenced by his extensive study and "grading" of serial killers and mass shootings like the Columbine massacre. Sesler admitted to practicing violence by killing animals, including his family's pets and local livestock. He confessed to setting fires and shooting at vacant buildings and schools in the Waller area at night. Experts noted that his behavior followed a common pattern for mass murderers, where small, cruel acts progress into more extreme violence.

After years of planning, Sesler decided to murder his family first, telling investigators it was so they would not be ashamed of his planned school shooting. He used a .22 rifle to ambush and kill his mother, who was the first victim. When his brother survived the initial shooting and fled, Sesler broke down the bathroom door to execute him with a pistol. He then shot his father, who had been awakened by the noise. Following the murders, Sesler desecrated his family's home, scribbling messages of love and regret on the walls, and killed the remaining pets. After leaving the "war zone" of his home, Sesler armed himself and drove toward his alma mater, Waller High School, to carry out a mass shooting. However, he backed out of the final step, later telling investigators that the reality of what he had already done had become "too real".
