Tammy Mae Vasquez is an incidental character and the ex-girlfriend of serial killer and robber William Duke Mason. She appeared in the Criminal Minds Season Eleven episode, "Outlaw."

Background[]

Not much is known about Tammy's background, other than that she was born around 1987 to a single mother named Ruth and was likely raised in or around Las Vegas, New Mexico. She also got a job as a waitress at a nearby diner at some point in her adulthood. When she was in high school, she became romantically involved with William Duke Mason, a relationship that continued after they both graduated. However, their relationship became strained over time, largely due to Mason's growing addiction to methamphetamine and his sketchy friends. Sometime in 2009, Mason impregnated Tammy with their child, but left soon after to begin a crime spree with Benjamin Wade. They committed a robbery and mass murder at a restaurant in Las Vegas before traveling to El Paso, Texas, where they robbed a gas station and Wade killed the clerk. However, the two were arrested soon after, and they were both incarcerated for the crime. During Mason's incarceration, he would send letters to Tammy and attempted to call her. However, Tammy, who by this point had given birth to their son, whom she named Cole and had raised with Ruth, never bothered to reply.

Outlaw[]

In 2015, Mason is released from prison and returns to Las Vegas, robbing a diner and killing three night shift employees with his new partner, Lester Turner. The next day, Mason drives to Tammy's house to see her, presumably with the intent of rekindling their relationship. Tammy arrives at the door, coldly rejecting Mason's advances beginning to argue with him. She tells Mason to leave, but he refuses. During the argument, Cole comes to the door and asks who's there. Upon seeing Cole, Mason realizes that he's Cole's father; he tries to confirm this by asking Cole how old he is, but Tammy sends him away before he can answer. Mason and Vasquez continue to argue briefly, before Tammy threatens him with a shotgun and threatens to call the police. Mason angrily leaves and drives off.

The next day, Mason and Turner split up after the two have a falling out. Shortly afterward, he drives to Tammy's house, takes Ruth hostage and begins playing with an oblivious Cole. Tammy drives home from work to see Mason's motorcycle in her driveway, and walks in to discover Mason and Cole playing together as Ruth silently apologizes to her. Tammy attempts to get Cole to come to her, but Mason refuses to let him go. She then leaves to call the police, but relents when Mason places his handgun on the table. She reluctantly joins Mason and Cole; sometime later, Mason forces Tammy and Cole into her pickup truck and the three drive to a nearby national forest. Tammy comforts Cole in her truck before leaving to confront a paranoid Mason, who demands to know if Cole is really his son. Tammy confirms this, and the two begin to argue about the end of their relationship. During the argument, she realizes that Mason was behind the 2009 murders as well as the recent crime spree, and tells Mason to leave. Mason attempts to calm her down by promising to take care of Cole, but this doesn't work. Shortly afterward, Turner arrives, introduces himself to Tammy as Mason's partner, and taunts Mason. Mason and Turner briefly argue before the BAU and local police arrive at the scene, having identified Mason and Turner as the perpetrators of the recent robbery-homicide. Not wanting to go back to prison, Turner begins to engage the police in gunfight, with Mason reluctantly following. During the gunfight, Turner is shot dead by Raul Montoya and Tammy and Cole are ferried to safety by police. Seeing this and realizing he'll never see either of them again, Mason continues firing and is eventually killed by Montoya; all the while, Tammy shields Cole's eyes and ears from the gunfire.
