What does (in)famous mean was he famous or not.Reid fanboy 00:56, March 23, 2010 (UTC)

A play on words, meaning he is famous, but is also infamous, which means really mean and nasty. -HI

Cat the Ripper[]

I remember hearing about a case of serial animal cruelty here in Sweden. The guy tortured and killed 10+ cats and one dog, calling himself "Cat the Ripper", after Jack the Ripper. He even wrote at least one poem about one of his kills. Can't find anything about the case online, though. I guess it's been too long. --Jpx400 04:58, April 30, 2011 (UTC)

Correction regarding Ripper alias[]

Spring-heeled Jack is not to be confused with the serial killer Jack the Ripper. They are two entirely separate figures in english mystery folklore. Infact, the legend of Spring-heeled Jack precede the Ripper murders with more than 50 years.[]

Thought the contemporary urban legend sporadically continued to pop up ever since the original sighting in 1837, Spring-heeled Jack was claimed to have been seen in in Everton, north Liverpool, in 1988 (the year of the Ripper), where he allegedly appeared on the rooftop of Saint Francis Xavier's Church in Salisbury Street - in other words almost 180 miles (ca: 289 km) away, across the country.

Moreover, the MO of the two characters completely differ from one anothers.

1. The Ripper was, possibly, seen on one single occation (by Israel Schwartz who may have witnessed the Ripper subsequent to the murder of the third of the canonical five Ripper victims; Elizabeth Stride on 30 September 1888), whereas Spring-heeled Jack demonstrably craved, and sought attention, exposing himself on numerous occations (according to the legend).

2, According to official sources, the mythological character Spring-heeled Jack never killed anybody, though he allegedly assaulted people in spectacular ways (including fire-breathing). However, while the Ripper exclusively preyed on misfortunate female prostitutes in a poor and very limited area (the London city district of Whitechapel) and killing his 5 confirmed victims in gruesome, nevertheless quite simular, ways, Spring-heeled Jack seemed to move all across Britain, mainly intimidating all sorts of people, of both genders, by his mere appearance.

Possible misinformation[]

This line on Francis Tumblety.

  • Was known for displaying women organs in jars and showing them to guests at multiple dinners that he hosted.

Should we really believe this? It came from Charles E. Dunham, a known liar who was even convicted of perjury on one occasion.
