Springfield Armory, Inc is an American firearm manufacturing company.
History[]
Springfield was founded in 1974 by Elmer C. Ballance in San Antonio, Texas. Originally named LH Manufacturing, Ballance's intention for the company was to create the first civilian-produced M14 rifle, calling his original project the Springfield M1A. The company was moved to Devine and gained popularity as production continued. Ballance eventually sold the company to a family who expanded its product line to include handguns as well (most notably their line of 1911 and XDM). The family continued to produce more firearms and the company gained mass popularity in the United States.
