Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden, a.k.a. “The Emir”, was a “wound collector”-type proxy killer, homegrown terrorist, and also the 1st General Emir of al-Qaeda, a Middle Eastern terrorist cell responsible for the September 11 attacks.

Osama bin Laden was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on March 10, 1957, to his father, Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden, and his mother, Hamida bin Laden (née al-Attas). He studied at the King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia until 1979, when he joined Mujahideen forces in Pakistan. In 1988, he founded a group he names al-Qaeda, which in Arabic means “the base.”
