The Nambu Type 14 is a Japanese semi-automatic pistol.
History[]
The Type 14 is one of many in the line of Nambu pistols designed by Kijiro Nambu from 1906-1945. The Type 14 specifically was produced in 1945 during the 14th year of the Taishō era (hence its name) to reduce Nambu's production costs. They were used frequently as sidearms by the Japanese military and featured in several wars. Most were destroyed or discarded in the ocean after their usage to prevent enemies of the country from using them, thus making the exact number produced unknown (though it is believed to be around 400,000). Despite declines in production and quality, the Type 14 still remains a popular pistol and is used by several other countries outside of Japan.
The American firearm manufacturing company Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (more commonly known as Ruger) based their Ruger Standard and its subsequent variants on the Mabu series.
