John McCool Bowers was an American actor best known for his role as David in the comedic web-series Severance.


Bowers was born on December 31, 1956, in Kennesaw, Georgia, to Joseph Stanton Bowers, Sr. and Virginia Knight Bowers. Bowers graduated from both the University of Florida and the Pepperdine University School of Law, and worked as a lawyer concurrently with being an actor. Bowers got his first on-screen role in 2011, when he was cast as Morten for one episode of the comedic crime series Weeds. Bowers got his first major role in 2014, when he was cast as David for 4 episodes of the comedic web-series Severance. Bowers has also appeared in TV shows and movies such as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Mastermind, Becoming Pagliacci, Negotiation, Futurestates, Lady Windemere's Fan, Life of Homer, The Way You Look Tonight, Sessions, Dollar King, The Enchanted Cottage, Actors Entertainment, Midnight Sex Run, The Secrets of My Father, Unremarkable, and Criminal Minds.

On December 28, 2017, in Simi Valley, California, at 60 years of age, Bowers passed away following a battle with cancer.

Bowers portrayed Bill Kestler, the abusive maternal grandfather of serial killer Willie Kestler, in the Season Eight episode "Perennials".
