— Hank Spencer Morgan to Garcia via video.
|
Hank Spencer Morgan is the son of former SSA Derek Morgan and Dr. Savannah Hayes and a minor recurring character on Criminal Minds.
Season Eleven[]
A Badge and a Gun[]
Savannah sends Morgan a text saying 'They need to talk' at the beginning of the episode. Towards the end, over the phone as Morgan was at the grocery store getting strawberry ice cream, Savannah wants to 'show Morgan how happy she is when he gets home,' implying she wants to tell him she's pregnant before he's abducted.
Derek[]
As Morgan is stranded in the middle of nowhere, he and his imagined father, Hank Morgan, recalled his last moments before being abducted. Derek figures out Savannah's pregnant. At the hospital, recovering from his rescue, Morgan tells Savannah he figured out she's pregnant with their child and asked Savannah to marry him.
The Sandman[]
Six months has passed and a case causes Morgan to worry and his view on seeing children dead is changing. Towards the end of the episode, a sniper is then seen aiming between Savannah and Morgan, and as a gunshot is fired, his mother cries out his father's name.
A Beautiful Disaster[]
Due to his mother being shot, Hank Spencer almost died, but barely survived. Hank is named after his paternal grandfather and his godfather, Dr. Spencer Reid, who Morgan sees as a brother. Due to being born at 33 weeks, he has to spend another two weeks in an incubator.
Tribute[]
Hank Spencer is mentioned by Prentiss, as the team was still adjusting to Morgan leaving to be with him and Savannah.
Season Twelve[]
Red Light[]
Hank Spencer is mentioned by Garcia and Morgan, who is, according to his father, is starting to walk but is waddling. Morgan also told Garcia that since his birth, Morgan has promised that he would be there for his son and has not broken that promise.
Season Thirteen[]

Hank reappeared in this episode via video message to Penelope Garcia to help cheer her up after experiencing painful memories regarding a case from a decade ago.
The Dance of Love[]
Hank Spencer is mentioned by Tara Lewis after Doctor Taylor asked about his father, wanting to see him again.
Notes[]
- He was born weighing 6 pounds, 1 ounce ("A Beautiful Disaster").
- He is named after his paternal grandfather, Hank, and Spencer Reid, whom his father thinks of as a brother.
- He shares the same godparents as JJ's eldest son, Henry: Spencer Reid and Penelope Garcia.
- Coincidentally, the actors who portray his godparents, Matthew Gray Gubler and Kirsten Vangsness respectively, also had additional roles in the production of the episode in which Hank was born. Gubler directed the episode while Vangsness co-wrote it alongside executive producer Erica Messer.
- In his debut, a newborn Hank was actually portrayed by a uncredited baby girl.
- His godfather, Spencer Reid, deliberately uses the alias “Bobby” when mentioning Hank to a felon (“Red Light”). By doing so, Reid protects Hank’s identity—though not his existence—and receives information about how much information that felon and her partners have about the teams’ personal lives.
