Dr. Azahari bin Husin, aka The Demolition Man, was a Malaysian man who built bombs that would later be used in several terrorist attacks in the early-to-mid 2000s. He was killed in a police raid in 2005.

History[]

Virtually nothing is known about Husin's background, other than he was born on September 14, 1957 in Johor. At some point he graduated from the University of Reading in Berkshire, England and eventually received training in Afghanistan for bomb making. He also became an Islamic terrorist. Husin began constructing bombs that would go on to be used in several terrorist attacks. He eventually became known as "The Demolition Man" and was one of the most wanted men in Indonesia. At some point he became well acquainted with terrorist Noordin Mohammed Top, both men being seen and described by neighbors as reclusive and only leaving their homes to pray at a mosque nearby. The two narrowly avoided arrest during a raid in which evidence of Husin's bomb-making was discovered. Husin was killed during a raid on an jihadist hideout in 2005, being shot in the chest by a sniper.

The attacks Husin was involved in were: the October 12, 2002 Bali bombings (which killed 202 people and two perpetrators and injured 209), the August 5, 2003 Marriot Hotel bombing (which killed 12 people and injured 150), the September 9, 2004 Australian embassy bombing (which killed 8 people and the perpetrator and injured over 150), and another Bail bombing that occurred on October 1, 2005 (and killed 23 people and two perpetrators and injured over 100).

Modus Operandi[]

Since Husin never directly participated in any of the attacks he was connected to, the term "M.O" is somewhat misused. The attacks he planned or was implicated in utilized IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) or car bombs.
