Trivia[]
- The episode appears to be partly inspired by the 2002 film John Q. The titular character took hostages in a hospital when his son needed a heart transplant and insurance wouldn't even cover the down payment, which later revealed the ailment could've been found sooner if the parties responsible for identifying his risks didn't want to keep added profits.
- The episode is a tribute to Meshach Taylor, who portrayed recurring character Harrison Scott. Taylor died of colorectal cancer on June 28, 2014, following his second appearance in "The Road Home", which in turn was his last acting performance. Joe Mantegna, a friend of Taylor's and the actor who portrays Rossi, requested this tribute to be featured in the episode he was contracted to direct.
- A quote Scott says ("Scars remind us where we've been. They don't have to dictate where we're going.") was previously recited by Rossi in the Season Five episode "The Slave of Duty".
