Alec Smight is an American director.

Biography[]

Smight was born in New York City, New York, to Jack and Joyce Smight. His father was a director while his mother was an actress. At some point in the 1980s, he followed his parents' footsteps and went into the entertainment industry. He first started with editing, working in the department for made-for-TV films and TV shows such as North and South, Book II and Hill Street Blues, serving as an assistant. He was promoted to full-time editor and edited for several TV shows like L.A. Law, Chicago Hope, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

In 2006, Smight moved into the field of directing. He first started with an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and went on to direct a total of 42, including the show's 300th episode. From 2010 to 2015, he also produced a total of 101 episodes for the show. In addition, Smight directed two episodes in the second season of CSI: Cyber, the third spin-off of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He is also scheduled to direct episodes for Criminal Minds and its spin-off Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. He also dabbled in acting, guest-starring in L.A. Law and Chicago Hope, the very shows he edited for.
